In Harghita county there are 168 family doctor's consulting rooms from among which 80 in towns and 88 in villages. Parallel with these, there are also 56 dental offices out of which 38 in towns and 18 in villages. There are 22 dental mechanic laboratories, 22 specialist consultation rooms and 102 outpatient departments.

There are a total of 2,988 beds in hospitals, out of which 1,063 in the County Hospital of Miercurea-Ciuc, 684 in the Odorheiu-Secuiesc Town Hospital, 280 in the Gheorgheni Town Hospital, 222 in the Toplita Town Hospital, 71 in the Vlahita Town Hospital, 123 in the Cristuru-Secuiesc Town Hospital and 545 at the Tulghes Psychiatric Clinics.

79.66 % of the education posts are occupied by qualified teachers while the rest by substitutes. In towns, 87.38% of the posts are occupied by qualified teachers while this rate is 70.93% in villages.

Beginning with May 2001, a great campaign was started aiming at modernizing school equipment. In the framework of this campaign, 75 schools have received a total of 153 personal computers, 85 xerox machines, 93 laser printers and 70 classrooms have been refurnished. At present, 330 more classrooms are being refurnished.

Connecting schools to the internet also started in 2001.
