Harghita County in the statistics

Until the end of 2001, 368,000 cubic metre wood was cut in the forests of the county, which shows a significant decrease in comparison with the 834,000 cubic metre exploited in 2000.

The decrease in felling is due to the fact that, on one hand, the forests have been given back to their former proprietors, on the other, that the normal rate of lumbering has been re-established as compared to the previous years, after the wood felled by storms had been utilized completely, as the exploitation of this wood increased lumbering many times in the past years.

Making timbering more severe as well as frequent controls have put a stop to the forest-raiding flourishing in the past few years.
