The tradition of the painted eggs decorated with different motives, symbols of fertility in the pagan times and also of spring revival is still a living tradition in several villages of our county. Especially famous centres of egg painting are Corbu and the valley settlements of the Ghimes Csángós. The decoration, the pattern is drawn on the white eggs with a special tool called 'kesice' dipped into hot beeswax. Then the eggs are cooked in red paint which colours them red, only the places of the linear patterns remain white, after the writing material. In Ghimes, more than sixty types of these ornamented eggs are made. It is worth buying some of them as souvenirs or for interior decoration. One only has to pay attention to keep them in an airy, dry place for a year at least.
