Since 1998, on the first weekend of each August the City Days of Miercurea Ciuc are organized as a memorial of the charter of Izabella queen (4th of August 1558), the first official document in which the city of Miercurea-Ciuc (Csíkszereda) is mentioned. Since August 2000 the City Days is part of the Youth Days and the Meeting of Leaders Day, which was organized separately.
During the City Days (4-5 days), beside the Youth Days and the Meeting of Leaders, the hoisting of the city flag, the festal meeting of the City Council (handing over of Pro Urbe awards and honorary freeman diplomas) is part of the program. Brass bands entertain the people, artisan fair, Potato-festival, sport competitions are organized, there are beer-tents on the Majláth Gusztáv Károly square, which are open until dawn. The local cultural institutes prepare festal programs such as book-presentations, exhibitions (local history), writer-reader meetings, performances, competitions, different outdoor programs for children and adults. There are parties on Friday and Saturday evenings, on Sunday popular dance evening, the roads are full with happy old and young people.
The sport programs, which were organized within the compass of Youth Days, attract mostly the young; the spectators enjoy the car skill and speed competitions. In spite of the heat, football, basketball, chess, biking, table tennis, foot tennis, running competitions are organized. The fireworks on Saturday evening at 22 o'clock attract many people. After that foreign and local music bands play and entertain the crowd until dawn. Sunday morning the popular art and artisan fairs reopen, on the stage takes place the Meeting of the Leaders (all day), the Harghita Natonal Szekler Ensemble dances. The popular dance evening closes the festival.
