Starting point: Lunca de Jos. Approaching possibilities: the 12/A main road and the 501 railway. We leave the main road at the Tarcău railway station in Lunca de Jos, we start on the main road of Pârâului Capelei. After about 600 meters (10 minutes) in the first big curve of the stream we turn to the left and go along the path that leads up to the "Ősbarátos" hill (25-30o). The first part of the way that leads through a wide pasture is the most difficult. We continue our way to the left on the edge of a pine forest for about 3 km, on the right there are hay field and small spots of woods. After hour we arrive to the southern extension (1443 m) ofVf. Ascuțit mountain (1516 m). From here the edge of the ridge turns to right in a wide arch and the mountain pasture gets so wide that it looks like a plateau. The road goes along the edge of the forest, than we leave a shepherds' lodge and a few haylofts in the right, and some temporary lodges. As we go along the edge of valleys and down rushing streams, we can watch Ghimeș-Făget village in the valley of Trotuș. Beginning from the Vf. Popoiu peak (1270 m) we enter a forest that goes down gradually to the range of pârâului Rece stream. There are a few haylofts near the stream on the edge of the wasteland. A good quality forest road comes up here from pârâului Boroș. We are on the Northwestern side of Vf. Apa mountain (1329 m), the next part of the track goes slightly upwards for about one kilometer. We arrive at least to the flat ridge; we can see abrupt and narrow valleys on the Eastern slope. As we go further we can see the mountain pasture getting narrow near the Vf. Fagul Alb peak (1307 m). Until now the ridge was running to northwest - southeast - south, now, going around the Boros and Ugra-streams, after the Vf. Fagul Alb peak starts to run in east-west direction. We go through woods and clearings on the long ridge of Nilenc, in a height of 1300 meters, for four kilometers. At the western corner of Nilenc at the intersection of road 7 which comes up from the Bot mountain, the ridge path becomes curved, and takes the southwest- south direction. The path goes further between the almost same sized peaks of Vf Comiat (1402 m), Mt. Lung mountain (1405 m) and Mt. Bereș mountain (1413 m). On the northwestern slope of Vf. Petru mountain (1452 m) we reach the springs of the Trotuș. From the Vf. Viscolul (1371 m) peak we reach the houses of Coșnea in the valley of Sulița stream. From here we turn to south and follow the red stripe mark, and after 2 km we reach the Vf. Viscolu peak.
Mark: unmarked Length of track: 8 km Track time: 3 hours Level difference: 480 m Links: track no. 6 Description: Recommended in each season.
We choose the mayor office in Lunca de Sus as starting point (DN 12/A, railway no. 501). We go back on the main road about 250 m, and we turn to the left and go up on the village road ofValea Ugra stream. After 100 m we go under the railway bridge and we turn to the right at the corner of the graveyard. The path leads along the bald and abrupt edge of the Kolontos-Bitco (1171 m), on the hay field of Lunca de Sus. It goes up gradually. After each steep rising a flat and straight passage comes. From the Vf.Bitco we can see the whole upper valley of Trotuș. We go further on the narrow edge and we go on the edge of the forest which comes up from the slope of Valea Lupului. After 2 km we turn to the right (south) and go across the wasteland that gets wider, then, at the high mark of 1334 m we turn eastwards in the direction ofMuntele Drept mountain (1375 m). The road goes right across the peak. Let's stop and enjoy the view (the valley of Csügés on the east, the ditches of Ugra-, Boros-, Muntele Drept-mountain- and Muntele Comiat river on northwest, Szello on the south, Káronta on the east, the Apa mountain on the north). The last part of the track is really easy, we go across a big flat pasture and we reach the corner of Colțul Nilenc (road no. 6).

This is one of the most beautiful round tracks in the middle of Munților Ciucului mountains. Although it's not a marked track it's really easy, it's recommended for everybody. We use the road that goes near the Kishavas guesthouse in Frumoasa, the road that connects Ciuc with Moldova. We can leave our car here and we can start the walking-tour. At the beginning we go above the collecting lake on a wide road. After 5 km we arrive to the place where the 2 upper streams of Frumoasa stream (pârâul Fata stream, pârâul Îndrăgostiților stream) meet. We go up on the rocky path on the left which leads up on the mountain edge between the 2 streams. This leads up through a pine forest on the southern slope of Vf. Fânului peak (1190 m) to the edge of the mountain. The ground is quite bare with gulches. On the left we can see pastures and hay field, on the right we can see the edge of the forest. At Motorsirülő we reach the main ridge track. We turn here to the right and we have a rest on the grassy southwestern slope of Vf. Capătul Frumos (1371 m). After 500 m in a valley curve to the left branches the path that leads to Coșnea. At first the path goes on the left bank of Péter mountain stream, and then goes along the Solonca stream. We keep on going on the ridge track and arrive under Vf. Viscolu. There is no marked path that leads up to the peak. We climb up the Szello and after 15 minutes we arrive to the peak. We can go back on the same way, or we can go 2 more kilometers and reach a slope named Capătul Pálos. There are a few red cross marks but only scantily. These marks lead to Șumuleu. The ridge track goes along the edge of the border of Fata stream, and after a while it turns westwards. Now we can already see Vf. Piricica (1292 m), which is a well-shaped cone. We don't climb up, we turn to the right on the mountain edge (Capătul Pálos) in front of it and we continue our way on a forest road. We walk 7 kilometers along the long and open ridge of Gozorul Mare. The view is great, we can see the two valleys of the neighboring streams (Fata- and Pálos streams), the long ridge of Dl. Gozorul Mic, the Vf. Viscolul and the collecting lake of Frumoasa. Gradually we go down on the edge of Lazului Roșu and we reach the forest road of Frumoasa stream, and after that the main road. Accommodation: in the Kishavas guesthouse, or camping near the lake.
Track no.9: Miercurea-Ciuc- Șumuleu - Cioboteni - pârâul Șumuleului stream- under Bucheghieșul Mare(1078m) - Vf. Lui Alexandru hill (1174 m) - Vf Înalt peak (1246 m) - Vf. Piricica peak (1292 m) - Vf. Viscolu mountain (1494 m)
Mark: defective red cross Length of track: 21 km Track time: 6-7 hours Level difference: 844 m Links: tracks no. 1, 6 and 8. Description: Recommended for summer.
Starting point: the center of Miercurea-Ciuc. After the Márton Áron high school we take the Sec road on the right, we leave the main road (DN 12). After two kilometers we reach the church in Șumuleu. After the old NACL building (The National Association of Catholic Lads), and the Jakab Antal Study House we turn to the left and after a few meters on the right, we don't follow the asphalt road which leads to Păuleni Ciuc. We are among the houses of Cioboteni. On the left we can see the Szent Péter church (it's a valuable baroque monument church). We follow the main road of the village. We leave the village, and go along the good quality forest road that leads us along the Șumuleu stream. One kilometer away from the last houses on the right edge of the road there is a mineral water spring in the moor. After one kilometer we can find the second mineral water spring a between the stream and the road. Both springs are drinkable. We should fill a few bottles. The following four kilometers passage leads along the Somlyó stream. After four kilometers the forest road ends and continues in a wagon road that leads up along the ancillary branch of the stream (to the right) in a less friendly pine forest. This road leads up to the meeting point of the Vf. Buchiegheșul Mare mountain and the Vf. Vașond ridge, which is a flat and narrow ridge. We can find here on the right the forest road that comes up from Șumuleul Mare and goes through Creasta Șărmașul Mare. Our road goes around the edge of Șumuleu stream, turns to the left and after a short slope reaches one of the clearings of the ridge. While we go across the clearing we see a road coming from the direction of Háromkút feje (1073 m) and Vf. Buchiegheșul Mare(1078 m). We turn to north and go through a narrow forest path and we dodge the peak of Șumuleu stream (1072 m). The road goes further on the ridge, we go across a few clearings and woods on the edge of Közép-, Bükk-, Aracs- and Remete streams (west). After three kilometers on the flat peak we see a big potato field and a few farm buildings. The path goes upwards now for one kilometer and we reach the Vf. Lui Alexandru hill (1170 m). We can see now two tourist paths. One of them (left) goes across the Vf. Lui Alexandru hill peak. There we see a beautiful view of the valley of pârâul Fenioved stream (east) and the remote villages of the Bazinul Ciucului de Mijloc basin. (We shouldn't fallow the paths that go to the left because those paths lead to Delnița or Mihăileni. The main path of the ridge goes under the peak near one of the ancillary branches of pârâul Fenioved stream. If we don't want to climb up to the peak we can go along this path. The path goes further in northeast-southwest direction, towards Vf. Înalt(Coloș) peak (1246 m). The landscape of this 3 km path between Vf. Lui Alexandru hill and Vf. Înalt consists of mountain pastures, hazel bushes, pines, and birches. After the Vf. Înalt peak the ridge gets narrow and turns eastwards. The road goes around the north part of the rockyVf. Piricica peak (1292 m) and crosses the Nagy-Koszorú path (which comes from the left), the tourist track no. 8. There are 2 more km and we reach the main ridge path on the slope of Vf.Viscolul (track no.1). We turn to the left and go around the cirque of Fata stream (west), we leave the ridge path and we start to climb the Szello.
Mark: defective red point Length of track: 12 km +1,5 km bypass to get there and back to Adorján bath Track time:4-6 hours Level difference: 560 m Description: Recommended only for summer tours because of the defective marks and the abrupt northwestern slope of Óriás peak.
We start from the church inCsíkbánkfalva we follow the main road of the village, along the Szentegyháza stream. On the hill behind the houses we can see the Kálvária chapel. After 2 km we arrive to a bifurcation. If we want to see Adorján bath, we should follow the road that goes to the left. The road goes upwards gradually for about 700 m. In the upper side of the hay field, on the left bank of the Borvíz stream we can find one of the old springs of Adorján bath. A little further up near the forest we find the ruins of the warm bath and the almost dried out springs. The guesthouse (28 places) was ruined in 1990 by the people of Bankfalva as a radical solution to an argument with the local leaders. But it is still a first class camping and resting place. Going back to the bifurcation, we go across the hay field on the left side of Szénégeto stream at the foot of Maj hill (969 m). At the edge of the forest the road goes up abruptly and goes along the left bank of the stream (50-80 m above). After 2 km we reach the narrow clearing of the ridge. We turn to the left and we start to go upwards in the direction ofHavas peak (northeast). We are among pine trees. After one km we reach the Havas peak (1253 m), and after another km we reach the Óriás peak (1297 m). The legend says that a giant lived here, who stepped with one foot on the Aranyos hill that is above Csíkszentgyörgy and with the other foot he stepped into the Olt. In front of the Óriás peak (south) the road bifurcates. The right path goes down through a hay field and reaches the main ridge path above the Karocsi mountain (1193 m) (track no.1). The other path goes to the left under the Óriás peak and goes down to the Boldogasszony chapel that is above Csíkszentgyörgy. The road leads through a pine forest, than we reachCsíkszentgyörgy after we go across the hills with hay field (2 km). The view is very beautiful from the chapel, we can see the valley of Fiság, on the west we see the Alcsíki basin, in the background we see the ridges of Hargita mountain, covered with dark forests, among them we can observe the peak of Kakukk mountain (1558 m).
